She called off the \”Poetry and the American Voice\” symposium when some poets dared to raise their voices against the seemingly inevitable attack on Iraq. \”While Mrs. Bush respects the right of all Americans to express their opinions,\” a spokeswoman said, \”she, too, has opinions and believes it would be inappropriate to turn a literary event into a political forum.\”
