Last year more than 100 librarians and supporters listened to speakers including Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capitol talk about their support for libraries. This year WV Speaker of the House Kiss, Secretary of Arts & Education Kay Goodwin, library supporter, the Earl of Elkview, George Daughtery, Kate Long and others will be speaking. Long is the creator of the double-national award-winning radio series, IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY, about 14 famous authors born in the state, now being distributed by the Library Commission.

Myra Ziegler, Chair WVLA Legislative committee, also led last year’s rally. Not since the days of state librarian Fred Glazer, when he first came to WV in 1971, have librarians rallied in the state.

There will be other events at the Capitol, most notably a reception sponsored by the WV Library Commission to honor the trustees and supporters of the Pocahontas County Free Libraries system. Recently they received the National Award for Library Service from IMLS – along with the public libraries of Bozeman, Montana and the Free Library of Philadelphia . That event will take place at 3:30 PM in the reading room at WVLC, State Cultural Center. Other events hosted by WVLC are a SIRS demo and a presentation on the new Marshall/WVLC Public Library Certification Program. Those events will take place at WVLC.
