Another dangers-of-relying-on-internet story from the Clovis (NM) News Journal.
The story goes something like this: A graduate student logs onto the Internet to research a major paper, finds a site, quotes its content only to find out later the site’s information was gathered by a sixth-grader.
REALLY!
I would think that after the first or second F on a paper they might get the idea that something was wrong.
On the Electronic Frontier you are you own fact checker.
Takes me at least two weeks to do research…..
I must be showing my age, it takes me at lest two weeks of research for each paper. i like to find the perfect surce or quote. No wonder I don’t have that college social life!
Not just graduate students
One of my profs in library school put a history-of-computers website on our reading list for Intro to Information Science and Technology, that turned out to be a sixth-grade class project. It had about as much to offer as you would expect.
