USC Dean of Libraries says libraries still relevant in digital age

“I once had a student tell me that while doing research on the Internet, he read that smoking isn’t bad for you,” said Dean of Libraries Catherine Quinlan in a speech Monday. “What he didn’t take into account was that he was getting his information from a cigarette company’s website.” Quinlan gave the speech, titled “The Role of Libraries,” to students and faculty Monday and addressed the continuing importance of libraries, despite advancements made with online resources.

    Internet Research on Smoking
    The sad thing is that there’s still a lot of garbage posted on the net that claims that smoking isn’t harmful. It appears that some hard core smokers actually believed the tobacco company lies and are spreading them around. I just hope that kids or the very naive don’t read that junk and actually believe it.
