The Wall Street Journal reports that the new economic stimulus package under consideration by the US Congress may contain funds for Internet access. This matter of stimulus for the economy appears to be proposed as a means of creating construction jobs to increase broadband infrastructure. The President of the Communications Workers of America union, Larry Cohen, was reported by the Journal as stating that this could result in a hundred thousand new jobs.
The most recent installment of PCMag Radio noted that by their tests Nevada was the state with the fastest average Internet access speeds in the nation with New Mexico ranking lowest. The Journal’s piece notes that this money for Internet infrastructure would also be joined by money to upgrade and improve the electrical infrastructure of the United States. It was also stated by the Journal that this would be a key thing to have in place before renewable energy initiatives can be started.
We have to look at “the big
We have to look at “the big picture.” The days of tunnel vision are over. Our nation better wake up and smell the coffee. With all our bail outs along with the 168 billion economic stimulus package, that btw did nothing for our economy it is hard to understand why our government can’t see the need to bail us out of our dependence on foreign oil. The high cost of fuel this past year seriously damaged our economy and society. Why don’t we invest in America’s Energy Independence. Create clean cheap energy, badly needed new green collar jobs and reduce our dependence on foreign oil. What more of a win-win situation could there be? Instead of spending billions upon billions on bailouts, why don’t we instead invest in renewable energy. We have GUARANTEED returns if we do this. I just read a fascinating book by Jeff Wilson called The Manhattan Project of 2009 Energy Independence NOW .This book Is the big picture.
Of course
When I get to expense it the government decides to give it to me for free.
I am going drinking!
Bravo – It’s time for Internet access to be treated as a utility
I think this is a great idea, the sooner the politicians notice that the Internet is becoming a public utility that can only increase the people’s welfare in this country, the sooner the country will start running like it is in the new millenium, which it still seems to have problems catching up to.
