U.S. libraries in a squeeze between budgets, needs

Bob Cox writes The Seattle Times Reports Thousands of librarians visiting Seattle this week don’t have to look far to see where one city has landed on the continuum between the public’s increased appetite for libraries and the reality of shrinking budgets for library services.
“We’re blessed that we have a mayor and a City Council that understand the value of public libraries,” said Deborah Jacobs, Seattle’s city librarian. “Their support gives me a sense of security that others in my field don’t necessarily have.”
