Bad News For students at The University of Memphis. Just half-way through the school year, The University of Memphis library is out of book money. The library’s budget for the fiscal year was $155,000.
University of Memphis spokesperson Curt Guenther said school administrators are looking elsewhere to fill in the gap.
“It’s just like your budget at the house,” Guenther said. “If you have it and you spend it and you don’t have any more income, that’s it.”
Now, the school is left looking for money to be able to purchase books for the rest of the year.
Why is this considered news worthy?
This is a ridiculous item to post. Our library has never made it through an entire budget year without running out of money for books the entire time I have worked here (21 years). I would bet that is the case with many academic libraries.
Mismanagement
The university has no explanation? It sounds like pure mismanagement on the part of senior management to me. What is senior management being paid to do, if not manage the budget? At least, have an idea of what happened to the money?
