Universal Library–Digitize and Distribute

Anonymous Patron writes “Here’s A Little Article on something called the Universal Library. They point out for all the hoopla generated by Google Print, the Universal Library and other low-profile projects — Project Gutenberg, the Electronic Text Center, the Internet Archive — have been quietly pursuing the same goal for years.

“Our objective is to ultimately take the works of man… digitize it and make it free to everybody,” said Michael Shamos, a computer science professor at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, which created the Universal Library.”
