UBC library to use automated retrieval system

robg writes “A story out of Vancouver
reports on plans at the University of British Columbia to use robots for the retrieval of some books. It’s the first system of its kind in Canada.

Not surprisingly, there are mixed feelings about the plan. Some say the new system will improve efficiency, save space, and allow for better care of the books. However, critics say removing books from public view amounts to ‘putting these unfortunate books in jail.'”
