Turkish Reporter Killed for Speaking Out on the Country’s History

CNN reports on the death this morning of Turkish journalist Hrant Dink, 53, editor of the Armenian-Turkish language weekly Agos newspaper. He was shot dead in front of the Istanbul publication as he was leaving. He is not the first Turkish writer to receive retribution for writing what he perceived to be the truth of Turkish attacks on the Armenian population during the Ottoman empire.

Here is a tribute that Mr. Dink wrote on behalf of fellow Turk Orhan Pamuk, winner of the Nobel prize and himself accused of “offending Turkishness.”
