Turkey Drops Case Against Writer Pamuk

Reuters and Bloomberg report that a Turkish court has dropped criminal charges against best-selling author Orhan Pamuk on Monday. The European Union described this as “good news” for freedom of speech in Turkey.

Pamuk had been on trial for “insulting Turkishness” (i.e., pointing out the facts about the Turkish attacks on Kurds and Armenians) in his novels “Snow” and “My Name is Red.”
