Those painful library cuts in Toronto? Saved a grand total of $14,000

After all the angst over the City of Toronto’s decision to shutter 16 libraries on Sundays this fall, it turns out the move saved next to no money.
The Toronto Public Library this week inked a settlement with its employees’ union over the shutdowns that gobbles up nearly all the cash the library board saved by closing the branches.
“This is really disappointing,” said Councillor Denzil Minnan-Wong, an opponent of the Mayor. “So many families and kids were hurt by these cuts for absolutely no need. There was no benefit.”
