Ronda Storms opposes….
The Onion- A special session of the Florida Legislature convened this week to discuss not just home owners, but homos. State Senator Ronda Storms (R-epressive Hillsborough County) former Hillsborough County Commissioner best known for her ban on Gay Pride Day spoke out against everything. “Why do those people need homeowners insurance? Let them live in the library.”
See I could write for The Onion
What am I not getting here…
Hmmmm. Library has a place has taken on a whole new meaning – interesting, but stupid, but not so far off base…I wonder if there is such a thing as a “gay” bible – something like a guidebook, you know, like How to Be Gay for Dummies” – I think I’d like to work on that project, but I do need to get paid, so that I can buy my GAY BOOKS off the friggin’ internet!
However, is this an urban legend or really based on reality (the lines get blurred when we discuss any agenda that isn’t all on one page, so to speak)
Hypothetically Given or Not: A “reading agenda” and another vow to amend the constitution over library cards – What has our library come to?? I couldn’t quickly verify this story on the primary source for GLAAD and found a few more references (see below) although, I find this article interesting:
http://www.glaad.org/action/al_archive_detail.php? id=1593&
And, then the Onion’s referenced article excerpted below:
Nation’s Gays Demand Right To Library Cards
Leaders of the library-cards-for-gays movement, who say some 10 million homosexual citizens are forced to check out books from a loose network of underground libraries each year, liken their plight to American women’s long and historic struggle for borrowing privileges. Women were first issued library cards in 1936.
“No one’s preventing gays from using libraries they’re fully welcome to walk into them, browse all they want, and sit down and flip through any book they choose, even in the reference section,” said Sen. Jim Bunning (R – KY), one of several conservative legislators who has vowed to draft a constitutional amendment that would define library booklending as a contract between a library and a heterosexual reader. “But to issue them the same library cards as a regular American citizen would demean what our nation’s library cards stand for.”
“Perhaps in 10 or 20 years we can talk about full library rights for all,” said University of Florida Library and Information Sciences Professor Bruce Seitz, who co-authored the proposal. “If gays are issued cards too quickly, we could see a violent reactionary response, with millions of shocked and offended Americans cutting up their own cards and their children’s cards.”
“For now, gays should just be happy to read their Bibles,” Seitz added.
Such compromise solutions do not satisfy activists such as GLAAD’s Thomas, who perceive “raging hypocrisy” within the cardholder status quo.

Lastly, I don’t know about Ronda, but I can cook, clean and decorate a Christmas tree like nobody’s business – Girlfriend/Ronda, will you hire me and give me a place to live?
It really isn’t too funny any more, but please remember, gays own homes in Florida and we need to support the effort – just in case the funding for our libraries are taken away and they become Condos….dang.
Re:What am I not getting here…
The Onion is satire, not exceptionally well done satire, but satire none the less.
The University of Florida does not have a library school. USF, and FSU do.
Ronda Storms is real, not exceptionally well done, but real.
Re: The “real” Ronda
Nicely done! Now, let’s put our thinking caps on – When, with the exception of snide little nasty remarks, does Ronda actually have a thought of her own, and can make a stand. I personally believe that Ronda is a bully, but is smart enough to hide behind others when it is to her advantage. See below…BTW, do we grow cherries in Florida or is the illusion that we are not going to tolerate the thinly disguised lying that is going on behind the scenes of political agendas – Don’t get me wrong, dear. I do believe that Governor Crist is on the right track, here.
Insurance session bringing answers
Thursday, January 18, 2007
“The ‘cherry-picking’ in this state has got to stop,” said Sen. Mike Fasano, R-New Port Richey, as he proposed the new language on the Senate floor with co-sponsor Sen. Ronda Storms, R-Brandon. “We’ve got to send a message to the insurance industry, because we’ve heard that message from our homeowners back home that they won’t tolerate the cherry-picking in this state any longer.”7 7.html

Re: The “real” Ronda – Lastest “News” Flash
I don’t have much time to spend on this, today – However, if the St. Pete/Bay News 9 reference is solid – I’m shitting a brick – Whoah, I have to get my happy ass out and secure a job before I lose my friggin’ mind…Whew!
Well she just became the chair of the Committee on Children, Families, and Elder Affairs – YIKES!
Excerpted from email listserv (And, I”m leaving out the best parts – ha!): “A Brandon Pride Urgent Alert!”
Now will Ronda keep her promise in stopping Gay and Lesbian parents from adopting, or becoming foster parents now that she is a Senator? Remember back in April 2006 when senate candidate Ronda Storms stated she would work to bar gays and lesbians from being foster parents? quote:
“I don’t support putting at-risk children in homes that I think are at-risk themselves,” she said of gay foster parents.

Re: The “real” Ronda – Lastest “News” Flash
I was an Emergency Foster Parent (
Actually they asked that I not screw the children, that seemed a reasonable request.
I only had about six kids for a total of probably 60 hours. I kept them while their parents were in the ER, or in jail, or died… until another relative or more permanant placement could be found.
