The books were fine – but good judges are scarce

Anonymous Patron writes “The Telegraph Has An Interesting Take on The Booker Prize. A casual follower of the prize would easily conclude that some thought the standard of fiction this year disgracefully low.

They author says we don’t judge literature in general by its worst productions. We judge it by the best and quickly forget the rest. From that point of view, 2004 has been not far from a vintage year. The Booker judges did a reasonable job of finding the good novels of the year, though their shortlist was quite a disappointing one.”
