Testing College Students’ Web-Q

California State University has decided that it wants to evaluate its students for Internet literacy, as they do for math and English skills. Cal State has partnered with the Educational Testing Service and several other schools to create the Information and Communication Technology Literacy Assessment, according to this CNN story.

as Lorie Roth, assistant vice chancellor of academic programs at California State University puts it: “Every single one that comes through the door thinks that if you just go to Google and get some hits — you’ve got material for your research paper right there.”

The test was given an inaugural run this spring, but will be offered to all incoming students on a voluntary basis in Fall 2005.
