An Austrian illustrator behind a comic that depicts Jesus as a laid-back, binge-drinking surfer is in the midst of an uproar.
A group of artists gathered in Vienna Tuesday to draw attention to Greece’s ban of Austrian illustrator Gerhard Haderer’s The Life of Jesus, a religious satire and playful re-imagining of the life of Christ. It is reportedly the first book the country has banned in more than 20 years.

My Jesus surfs
My Jesus is the Son of God, if he wants to surf he sure can. After all if you can walk on water surfing must be a breeze.
And as to drinking, anyone who can change water into wine must have a pretty good handle on their drinking so I’m guessing that he is not the sot he might be made out to be.

Let’s make fun of the Christians (it is Holy Week after all).
Next week we’ll make fun of the Jews (we can make fun of them again in a month with Passover).
The following week we’ll make fun of the Muslims.
The next week we’ll make fun of the Buddhists.
I think mid-April is a good time to go after the Sikhs.

By all means lets not have satire of ANYTHING because it might offend SOMEONE.
I think it doesn’t when you do it, but how you do it and what your intent is.
And by all means, I think all religions could use a little humor to lighten up the message of doom and gloom that some of their more pessimestic followers like to promote. I think a religion that has survived thousands of years can survive a comic book.

I make fun of whomever I want, whenever I want, for whatever cause they give me to make fun of them; regardless of who they are, what they look like, what language they speak, or how they pray, or don’t, as the case may be. And it’s nobody’s business but mine. But they do have to give me a cause; I don’t follow schedules or look for excuses.
