Suburban MI libraries enforce penalties for overdue books

The Detroit News Says fed up with missing items, suburban libraries are turning up the heat on book deadbeats. They are getting tough on patrons who owe, in some cases, hundreds of dollars in missing and late materials.

Borrowers who owe excessive fines at libraries in Shelby, Clinton and Macomb townships as well as Livonia, Rochester, Rochester Hills, Royal Oak, Plymouth, Sterling Heights, Utica, Belleville, Brighton, Dearborn, Redford Township, St. Clair Shores, Southgate and Allen Park are referred to a collection agency.

A few intersting stats in this one as well, including 85 percent of library patrons return borrowed materials on time. Which reminds me, I have 2 that have been out over a month now…
