Suburban Chicago library says Yes to foreign language books

Acting after discussion and complaints appeared in the local newspaper, the board of the Gail Borden Public Library (Elgin, Ill.) approved unanimously a resolution to continue to purchase books in Spanish and other foreign languages based on community need. The Courier News reports that the library has a long history of providing foreign-language collections for immigrants. According to board member and Elgin historian E.C. Alft, the library had a large collection of German books in the 1890s which disappeared after interest waned three or four generations later.
