    Lower Prices
    If publishers could lower prices there might be greater interest from the public to buy new books over slightly new books. At Bibliofuture.org there is a story called Returns Suck (third story down) that discusses how publisher returns are a big inefficiency in the system. If these could be reduced the price of books could be reduced. Also the returned books often end up on the remainder market and can then compete against the new version.

    The music industry has plans to fight piracy by using a pricing model in certain countries of maybe 1 or 2 dollars more than bootleg copies. We’ll see how that goes.
