Los Angeles Daily News takes a look at text book prices. Increasing demands for colorful and visual learning aides and little market pressure were reasons cited Monday for the nationwide issue of skyrocketing textbook prices, according to testimony at a public hearing at College of the Canyons.
As part of a year-long federal study initiated by U.S. Rep. Howard “Buck” McKeon, R-Santa Clarita, the Advisory Committee on Student Financial Assistance held the second of three meetings to discuss some of the work being done by textbook publishers and college bookstores, as well as faculty members, to address the issue of textbook prices.
good
College textbook publishers are scum. 72% price increase over three years? For Faberge Eggs, maybe. Vintage Porches. Not Intro to Organic Chemistry.
Why is it that the trade books, YA and magazines I buy get more expensive with inflation and textbook pricing goes like Snickers bars in a famine?
It’s just stealing. Scum.
Simply greed!
What can I say? It’s simply greed! I guess savings can be made by buying second-hand books from students the year before.
