Story of Jamaican Immigrants Wins Whitbread Award

Andrea Levy’s novel “Small Island,” the story of a Jamaican immigrant couple struggling to adjust to life in 1950’s London, was selected as the winner last night of the Whitbread Award for the best book of year, one of Britain’s most prestigious literary awards.
