Start your own library

This One From Malaysia says those who have been to the library in Jalan Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur, say that its collection is so pathetic they can well believe there is no money for books!
British secretary of state Chris Smith describes libraries as “street corner universities�. Why not go one better and have one in your own home? Buy one book a month and in no time, you’ll have amassed quite a collection without having to fork out for a whole lot of books at once.

    Who is this Chris Smith that is referred to?
    Angela Smith is a Parliamentary Secretary at the Northern Ireland Office and Jacqui Smith is Minister of School for Schools in the Department for Education and Skills. The full list of the current ministry is posted by Number 10 Downing Street.

    While he was an MP, Baron Smith of Finsbury preceded Tessa Jowell (the current incumbent) as Secretary of State for Culture, Media, and Sport. He ceased serving as that particular Secretary of State in 2001 and stood down from the House of Commons in 2005. He was made a “life peer” and sits in the Lords without ministerial responsibilities.

    An odd reference, eh?
