Srinagar’s research library: a shame

Harsh Words Out Of India for the research library of the Department of Archives and Archaeology in the Old Secretariat complex.
They say it’s so bad that it throws up many shocks and it is no surprise that during last one year not a single research scholar has visited the 40-year-old library having around five thousand rare books and manuscripts.
In an almirah are utensils of librarians used to prepare tea. In some shelves there are old newspapers. Their condition is very terrible. “They are old. During my service of 20 years no one has touched them,” said an employee. These newspapers are brittle and break by even a touch.
