Some Nice Light Reading

The Denver Post Looks At the new Pueblo, Colorado, Robert Hoag Rawlings Public Library.

They say it joins the ranks of the state’s premier pieces of architecture. While not on the level of, say, Walter Netsch’s Air Force Academy Chapel in Colorado Springs or I.M. Pei’s National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, it is not far behind.

The $20 million building sits at the intersection of Abriendo and Newton avenues in what was once the town of Mesa Junction. And it must be counted among the major accomplishments of its principal designer, Antoine Predock.

Predock’s unconventionally shaped library boasts many of his signature touches: angular lines, creative use of metal accents, and a long, sloping roof. Other flourishes – notably the interplay of glass and light – are specific to this project.
