We’re all looking for new, shinier, and better ways to promote ourselves to our customers. Or perhaps just a way to reduce the mass of paper signage. Usually, we think BIG- giant flat screens at entrances and service points flashing the latest event information or latest new materials…
Instead of a ginormous flat screen why not try digital photo frames at your service points? Digital photo frames are CHEAP these days and will allow you to scroll through those static images promoting your program showtimes, upcoming events, new materials, reminders about dvd’s or databases, or even photos from your last exciting event! $50-$100 will buy you a good 7-10 inch frame that you can easily add images to.
An old computer works too
If you have an unused computer sitting around you can just set it up as a standalone and run a slideshow on the monitor. I cleaned off the old hard drive, stuck the tower under the circ desk, wound the cords through the counter and put the monitor on top.
yep, old TVs with s-video and a pc with s-video work great.
I use powerpoint for the slides and go into page setup to change the size of the slides to 14.2 x 10.7 which is supposed to match a 1028 x 764 resolution screen.. and save the slides as jpgs; sometimes I convert the show to svcd in another program and burn it to a cd to play on a standalong dvd player and an old TV.
but I like the small screen idea. I could save the files to an SD card and put the picture frame(s) on the circulation desk. but for now, our old TVs are doing the job.
$30 digital picture frame
eMotion DF-EM7BL 7-Inch Ambient-Blue Digital Picture Frame
stolen
These would get swiped in a HEART BEAT.
Rich libraries
A few of use work at libraries that are in rich suburbs and we don’t have to worry about a $30 picture frame being stolen. I am sorry that you have to work with hoodlums.
Theft
Thieves are everywhere, even in your ‘rich suburbs’. And you’re extremely lucky that you have the 30 dollars in your budget that’s expendable.
Our thieves
Sure there are thieves in the rich part of town but they do not steal $30 picture frames. They steal your retirement and your tax dollars. They are bankers and lawyers.
Well…
buy a bracket and some screws and mount it to a secure surface. Not too difficult to do.
