comments I have heard in my short librarian career so
far. The questions are real but my replies are not.

My reply was do you know the dewey number for what I
think you are..uh, ignorant.

No, did you go to school for journalism to be able to ask
me a fascinating question like that because inquiring
minds want to know.

Do they teach you about books in library school?
No, they taught me about books in preschool and when
did they teach you about books?
At an Christmas party, I was told Shhh! The librarian
is present.
I would have preferred hearing the librarian is a
present. Yes, I am a prized gift on every wish list for a
company. Thank you very much.
You must enjoy going to conferences. It is the only time
you librarians get to talk other than say Shhh!
Gee, librarians must never get laryngitis then since they
never speak. How can you explain that I missed
several days of work here last year because I lost my
voice…hmmm..
Conference must be quiet with all those librarians..
And I said, yes that is why we have conferences.. to
discuss better, more advanced ways to shh! people.
What do librarians do?
There is very little we don’t do..research, investigate,
report, supervise, manage, train, catalog, budget, plan,
organize, communicate, write, teach, learn, read, raise
money, gather information, persuade and the list goes
on and on, but most of all, we SPEAK! Did you say
something?

questions?

about how to ask more appropriate questions to
librarians?
