Security System Thwarts Computer Thief at Library

Anonymous Patron writes “Connecticut’s WFSB Channel 3 reports that “a man was caught camping out overnight in the Manchester library with intentions of burglarizing the building”. “The burglar was arrested before making his way out of the front door, thanks to the library’s burglar alarm, police said.” Wires had been cut on computer circulation terminals at the main desk. The computers did not contain any valuable information according to the library director.”

    Manchester Director is Library Connection VP
    Manchester Public Library is a Library Connection member. (www.libraryconnection.info) The director has been vice-president of that organzation since June 2006. LC has a corporate culture of not paying attention to detail (i.e. duplicate ISBNs; deficient inventory accuracy in PAC). It has beat to death a government inquiry into a SINGLE ip address formerly used by staff and patrons at a member library for its liberal anti-government political purposes. Now it is getting a bit dangerous. Perhaps they want to make a political statement that they are understaffed, overworked and underpayed. And wasn’t there a fire years ago at another Library Connection member building? That’s at least a double-check reference question.

    What was that all about? It may just be me but that was not related to the article, nor did it make much sense.

    What is getting dangerous, burglars stealing PCs? Do you think the data is stored on the PCs as opposed to the server? I’m fairly certain the server is locked safely away from burglars and staff who have no idea how to use it.

    If you think they are engineering burglaries for political purposes… well I think that more or less ended with Tricky Dick.

    Oh, and it is spelled “underpaid“.
