Secret Love and Revenge in the French Countryside

Being an author is not necessarily all accolades, royalties and renown. Here’s the story of French author Pierre Jourde and his book, Pays Perdu (Lost Land), a stark, sometimes comical account of community life in Lussaud in the Auvergne region of France. It was fictionalized, but not enough apparently…five villagers attacked the author with stones when he arrived to vacation there.

The book is full of stories of incest, secret love affairs, and even a death by tractor, all based on true events recounted to M. Jourde by villagers in confidence over the years. Story from the Telegraph (UK).
