School Librarians Gather in Pittsburgh

Young Adult librarian guru Patrick Jones and author Sharon Flake addressed an opening session of the American Association of School Librarians, focusing on reluctant readers.

Particularly for boys, books just can’t compete with television or the Internet. Other children who don’t read often grow up in home with no reading role models.

That’s why it has fallen to school librarians to include in their collections works shown to engage nonreaders including magazines and graphic novels.

Good quotes from both Flake and Jones at The Observer Reporter.
