School librarian cleared of assault charges

A Scott, TX, Elementary School librarian was acquitted of charges lodged after she was accused of striking a child with a stack of plastic shelf markers.

Jim Schweitzer, Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace, dismissed assault-by-contact charges against Lise Van Borssum, 64, Tuesday.

The contact “did not reach the level of a criminal act,” he said. “The whole thing was just a terrible overreaction to a non-incident. The case should not have been filed in the first place.”
