School Librarian a Newbery Award Winner

More on last week’s good news of librarian Laura Amy Schlitz’ award of the John Newbery Medal for best children’s book. The Modesto Bee has a story about the Baltimore librarian’s classroom project, “Good Masters! Sweet Ladies! Voices From a Medieval Village,” first conceived a decade ago.

“Good Masters!” ( Candlewick Press, $19.99) is a beautifully written collection of 22 brief monologues that gives voice to the young residents of a fictional English village in 1255. The author wrote the monologues to complement her students’ study of the Middle Ages. Winning this prestigious award will guarantee a broad audience for this captivating, original book, written for readers from fourth grade to adult. More on this title from google book.
