Salt Lake City’s prefab library

conservator writes “Chip Ward, the assistant director of the new Salt Lake City main library, is quoted in a glowing article on the new library in the University of Utah student newspaper (“New City Library Is Salt Lake’s Literary Corner”) as saying that “When the Mexican consulate visited, he mentioned how it reminded him of the city squares common in Mexico, where on a Sunday night, people gathered to enjoy music and food.”

This reaction by the Mexican consulate is entirely understandable, as the library’s concrete facade was precast in Mexico and trucked to Salt Lake City piece by piece! An article in Building Online says that “2,080 pieces with a total weight of 3,894,710.54 pounds were transported to Utah.””
