SA High-risk libraries not allowed early closure

The South African recreation and cultural services committee yesterday shot down a proposal by municipal officials to close Nelson Mandela Bay libraries early because of crime.

It did, however, agree to meet with its safety and security counterpart to map out strategies to improve safety and security at these facilities.

A report by recreation and cultural services executive director Tony Knott asked for permission to change the libraries‘ public operating hours. He requested that all libraries in the so-called high-risk areas close at 5pm.
