Robin Hood Fdn. Brings Libraries Back to NYC Schools

The Robin Hood Foundation, a nonprofit organization that fights poverty in New York City, is continuing its crusade by rebuilding and refurbishing libraries in 25 N.Y.C. elementary schools.

The new libraries, in schools with mostly poor students, are designed by award-winning architects and include thousands of new books, as well as new computers. Typically, they include a classroom area for group lessons, a casual storytelling area and a section of tables, desks and study nooks for individual reading. And, of course, new wooden shelves stacked with new books.

In exchange for a new library, schools must agree to keep the library open after school and on Saturdays. Read about it in today’s New York Times .
