Return of Old Books From France

Anonymous Patron writes The Korea Times Reports The Korean government, which has been negotiating the return of precious historical books looted from Korea by France (during their invasion of that country in 1866), recently asked for digital photocopies of the books.

Foreign Ministry officials say the copying of some 30 volumes is urgent for research purposes, stressing they will continue bargaining separately for the return of the actual books. They should do so by all means, as the ownership of these cultural assets undisputedly belongs to Korea. Still, the latest move could look like a retreat from Seoul’s initial position, particularly from the viewpoint of Paris.”
