Response to a Disgruntled Library Patron; Yes, we Sometimes Make Noise

From Hartfordshire, UK, a response to a Letter to the Editor from a librarian/educator (John Harris, Director of Children, Schools and Families, Herts County Council) about how yes, all age groups occasionally make noise at the library, but that’s what modern libraries are all about. Get with the program cross and grumpy Mr. Hart!

    not so much a library but a building that has the feel of a minimum-security prison

    Impertinent suggestion made me cross
    I have written three letters of complaint but they have proved to be an absolute waste of time. The first letter stated that the children’s area was meant for reading and that there was no intention of it being a play area. This is nonsense because there are toys everywhere. The writer also suggested that I use the library at less busy times! This impertinent suggestion made me cross.

      How impertinent!
      He sounds like the kid of guy who gets cross when I suggest that he could use our Adult Quiet Study room if he wants complete silence.
