It’s been 100 years since Andrew Carnegie helped create the Simplified Spelling Board to promote a retooling of written English and President Theodore Roosevelt tried to force the government to use simplified spelling in its publications. But advocates aren’t giving up.
But whose pronunciation would you use?
I wouldn’t have said “eether” there – I would have said “aither” (Is that the equivalent of eye-ther?? I’m obviously not very good at simplified spelling.)
Ridiculous effort
I amnot a linguist but such efforts are silly and ludicrous. Language is a living and changing entity. Spelling may be “controlled” by dictionaires and such but they ar ebased on commonly accepted practice. To appoint a board to change the habits of all Americans who speak english is a waste of time and money. Look at how much effort Dewey (Dui) wasted in his efforts. Language, especialy English, is not logical. It is organic and constantly changing.
