Profile of a Southern Librarian: Woldek Zarycyny

Wlodek Zaryczny, Beaufort (SC)County’s new director of library services, has never spent much time in the South.

This profile of the county’s new librarian as reported by the Carolina Morning news tells about his youth in New York City, his decision to pursue a career in library science, and his 26 years as a librarian, including stints at several Michigan libraries and his six years as director of the Roanoke VA Public Library.

Beaufort is the fastest growing county in South Carolina, and has some of the states wealthiest populations (Hilton Head), but like other libraries around the country, funding has become the major focus for Zarycyny and the library board.
