slashgirl writes “‘Last November’s broadcast of the Second World War film Saving Private Ryan by ABC did not violate indecency guidelines, the U.S. federal broadcast regulator has ruled.
The Federal Communications Commission ruled Monday that despite the fact that the Oscar-winning movie depicts soldiers using expletives, “in light of the overall context in which this material is presented, the commission determined that it was not indecent or profane.”‘
Rest of the story here.“
Broadcasters are in the wrong business.
If they want to get the biggest bang for their sanction buck, they should switch to any of the other federally regulated industries.
Under the proposed fine structures in the Bill currently before congress, one wardrobe malfunction could buy the wrongful death of an elderly patient in a nursing home and still have enough money left to create dangerous mishaps at two to four nuclear reactors (and if they went to nuclear weapons productions, they’d be elligible for that contract perk where the Federal Government actually pays the cost of any fines!). One Bono “f*ing brilliant” could pay for a potentially much more lucrative round of illegal testing of pesticides on human subjects.
