slashgirl writes “‘The music of Oscar Peterson, Megan Follows’s Anne of Green Gables and the late CBC broadcaster Barbara Frum’s As It Happens interviews are the newest additions to an archive of Canada’s audio and visual history.’
I see that they’ve also archived The Friendly Giant, I loved that show when I was a kid. Rest of the article is here.

AV Trust
I have been puzzled by this organization but I think that’s because I originally thought that they were responsible for preserving the various “holdings” they list each year. In fact they are an index of other organizations archives and seem to exist to promote the preservation of items by other organizations and libraries.
I am an employee of the CBC Radio Archives and I happen to know that the ‘Friendly Giant’ has always been preserved in the CBC archives. So the function of the AV Trust seems to be to promote what is already available in Canadian collections and perhaps keep tabs on those same collections so that particular sets of items are not neglected.
I don’t think these yearly announcements indicate much in the way of new efforts in media preservation in Canada.
