Popularity proves libraries are loved

Anonymous Patron writes “Remember that column from last week when Jim Trageser seemed to view libraries as archaic institutions in our modern world? Brigid Brett’s column says she feels more at home in a library than almost anywhere else in the world.
She asks If computers have all the answers, then why did the librarians at the Escondido library answer 269,849 questions from the public in 2004 —- an increase of more than 7 percent from the year before? This amounts to 94 questions answered every hour.”
