Popular Children’s Author Named Reading Ambassador

He’s a friend of children, parents and stinky cheese men, and now he’s also a literacy ambassador; author Jon Scieszka has been chosen by the Library of Congress’ James Billington as “Reading Ambassador” for the next two years. Story and startled-looking photo from the Washington Post.

Scieszka (pronounced Shess-ka) is widely known not only for his best-selling kids’ books but for his concern with encouraging boys to read more. He runs a nonprofit literacy program called Guys Read reported in these pages several years ago.
