Politicians who really love libraries

lislemck writes “I was thrilled to see two smiling faces on the cover of Library Journal . Even though the article seems a bit of a whitewash of the situation and the administration, I am very pleased to see Nutter and DiCicco get well-deserved praise.

Coucilman Nutter is a heavy library user. I have handled reference requests from him for years. He calls or emails himself, is never pushy, and always appreciative.

The article also doesn’t cover how much of a role the Friends played, acting tirelessly, or the role of AFSCME DC 47. The shop steward set up a Yahoo group that functioned marvelously to keep staff informed, but also created a place for staff to share thoughts and ideas. I hope it continues long after the crisis.

DiCicco and Nutter put their reputations and their mouths on the line for Philadelphia libraries. Hear, hear!”
