You might think gay penguins are funny and cute, but you’d be wrong! As Reported In The Chicago Tribune & All Headline News: Complaining about the book’s homosexual undertones, some parents of Shiloh Elementary School students believe the book — available to be checked out of the school’s library in this 11,000-resident town 20 miles east of St. Louis — tackles topics their young children aren’t ready to handle.
Their request: Move the book to the library’s regular shelves and restrict it to a section for mature issues, perhaps even requiring parental permission before their child can check it out.
At least for now, the district’s chief isn’t budging. Though a panel she appointed suggested the book be moved and require parental permission before it is checked out, Superintendent Jennifer Filyaw says “And Tango Makes Three” will stay put — at the advice of the district’s attorney, who says moving it might be legally challengeable censorship.
I read the book
The penguins are not gay.
Move along here nothing to see.
C’mon people show some sack
I’m always puzzled by how people who don’t like gay people are allowed to “object” to mentions of their (the gays) existence w/out copping to not liking gay people.
“SOME people might find that offensive.”
“That’s a little inappropriate for kids, don’t you think?”
What a mealy-mouthed crock. Own that bigotry, people! Stand up and announce your beliefs proudly.
Rarely do you get the refreshing honesty of a brave bigot who can say, full-throated: “I care not for sodomites! I demand their presence be removed from everything I survey.”
I can deal with that.
People act like they want books with any mention of homosexuality removed from library collections because it’s actually track lighting and tin ceiling faux finishes they object to.
Cowards. Sack up and hate people. You know you want to.
Re:The penguins are not gay.
I can just see the title of some neocon freak show author now:
“The penguins are not gay: More Lies From Liberals”
Re:C’mon people show some sack
What if they were hot, lesbian penguins?
Re:I read the book
Not gay. And even if it was it shouldn’t matter. It’s a sweet story based on fact.
Re:C’mon people show some sack 🙂
Then it could be in the adult section
We still have to think of the children, they are our future you know.
In the Animal King and Kingdom . . .
