Panda Pencil stays in the green

Panda Pencil Inc. is the world\’s largest producer of the little 3 1/2-inch golf pencils. Without working overtime, the Trenton-based company can make 280,000 pencils a day and roughly 100 million a year. Most of them go to golf courses, but some must make it to the desk.

The pencil making industry had started consolidating in the 1980s. In 1982, there were 26 pencil-making companies. By 1987, seven were left standing.
