OpenReader seeks librarian participation

David Rothman writes “An LISNews reader complained about the Librie‘s proprietary format for e-books. Sony is hardly the only offender. The industry urgently needs to raze the costly Tower of eBabel. Proprietary formats are a burden to library systems and many top e-book retailers, not just consumers. You might ask your library system and your favorite library organization to endorse the OpenReader concept. Two related mailing lists are open to the interested. Note: The main person behind OpenReader is Jon Noring, a veteran e-book-standards-setter and moderator of the 2,779-member eBook Community List, a general e-book list, not an OpenReader one. I’m among OR’s ringleaders.”
