OH Library districts fight for a piece of state funds

Marlene writes Here’s one for the lawyers. When is a library that circulates to the public eligible for state funding? Self described as a “privately funded public library”, Wagnalls Memorial Library, of Funk and Wagnalls Publishing Co fame, has asked the Fairfield County Budget Commission for $324,700 of the $4.2 million in state funding usually split 73-27 between neighboring Fairfield County and Pickerington library systems. The commission has stated it will make it’s decision about changing the two-way split into a three-way split of the 2004 state funding by September. Fairfield County District Library has threatened to sue over the funding issue if Wagnalls gets a piece of the pie.”
