N.Y. Public Library Asks Patrons for Help

Rather Sad News from NYC, where the NYPL, whose city funding was severely cut two years ago, is embarking on a three-year emergency campaign to raise $18 million for programming, books and material at its 85 branches and four research libraries.

Starting in September, library branches will be handing out envelopes for donations from their reading public. No amount will be turned down. A donation of $17, for example, would cover the cost of a new book.
