Now Where Was I? New Ways to Revisit Web Sites

A NYTimes Piece says researchers are finding that despite the early promise of bookmarks, people seem to be abandoning them.

William Jones, a research associate professor at the Information School at the University of Washington, says that bookmark lists have become “information closets” that hold a jumble of sites people never return to. Only hyperorganized users sort sites into folders, clean out dead links or click on inscrutable addresses to figure out why they were bookmarked in the first place.

    organizing your life & your bookmarks
    Just like in the physical world, there are hoarders (like the guy whose magazines and books fell on him), and thrower-organizers. Problem is when one of each kind live together!

    Validation?
    I always find it so complimentary when my behavior of filing away bookmarks with annotations into folders in my browser’s favorites and regularly checking for dead links is described as “hyperorganized” as opposed to, oh, maybe “anal” or “obsessive.” 🙂
