Pinter also won the Wilfred Owen Award
Harold Pinter has also won the Wilfred Owen Prize for for poetry opposing the Iraq Conflict. Another
Nobel Laureate, Seamus Heaney has been honored with the Wilfred Owen Award as well. Pinter has spoken out bravely against the war in Iraq: “Bush and company are determined, quite simply, to control the world and the world’s resources. And they don’t give a damn how many people they murder on the way. And Blair goes along with it.”
Re:Pinter also won the Wilfred Owen Award
So what your saying is the Nobel Price for Literature has now become as politicized, and therefore as meaningless, as the Nobel Prize for Peace. Good to know.
Pinter also won the Wilfred Owen Award
The Nobel committee does have a history of acknowledging writers who stand against power.
Previous winners include Soviet dissident Alexander Solzhenitsyn, outspoken German writer Guenter Grass and Wole Soyinka, a caustic critic of Nigeria’s military regime.
On a completely different subject, another honoree
and an apparent favorite of LISNewsterz, Angelina Jolie won the Global Humanitarian Award from the United Nations Association. Here she is, complete with major cleavage, accepting the prize . Wonder if a less glamourous humanitarian was under consideration…?
